


In Uganda today, one of the growing challenges affecting our communities is improper waste disposal, especially along roads and in public spaces. The image of a person carelessly throwing a plastic bottle out of a moving vehicle is a strong reminder of a habit that continues to damage our environment.
The Luganda message “Banaange, Temwonooona Butoonde” translates to “Friends, let us not destroy nature.” It is a direct appeal to every road user, passenger, and citizen to take responsibility for the environment we all share.
Plastic waste does not disappear quickly. When bottles and other trash are thrown on roadsides:
Protecting the environment is not only the job of government or local leaders. Every individual has a role to play:
Uganda is known for its natural beauty—from national parks to lakes and scenic highways. If we continue to litter, we risk destroying the very environment that supports tourism, livelihoods, and future generations.
Let us embrace the message:
