Safari Overview – 14 Days/ 13 Nights

This amazing safari will take you from Mabamba swamp to the North Eastern Uganda in search for the highly sought after birds of the region. Expect to spot different bird species worth searching for in the Pearl of Africa. It will also give you great opportunity for photography, while enjoying game drives, cultural and a boat trip.

Day 1: Arrive – Entebbe


On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, Ganyana safari driver/guide will meet and great then transfer you to your overnight accommodation in Entebbe. You will be briefed about your 15 days Uganda safari.

Day 2: Birding in Mabamba swamp


After breakfast, head to Mabamba swamp for the Shoebill Stork. While looking for the Shoebill, we hope to also see some more African water birds like Yellow-billed Duck, African Jacana, Papyrus Gonolek, Long-toed Lapwing, also chances of the Blue-checked Bee-eater and African Marsh Harrier. Later head back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary


Then transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola. While Rhino tracking, look out for various bird species. Later transfer to Murchison falls National Park. Head to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 4: Birding in the Sanctuary


You will enjoy the whole day birding in the sanctuary. You will track the rhinos accompanied by an experienced guide and also find some of its 300 bird’s species. Look out for birds like Black-crowned Night-Heron, Shoebill, Ducks, Raptors, African Green Pigeon, Cuckoos, African Scops-Owl, Nightjars, Greater Honeyguide, Woodpeckers, Cuckoo-shrikes, Chats, Crombecs, Green-backed Eremomela, Cisticola, Tits, Sunbirds, Shrikes, Orioles, Starlings, Weavers, Finches among others. Later head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Birding in Masindi and transfer to Murchison Falls NP


Enjoy delicious breakfast at the lodge, transfer to Masindi and enjoy birding. Look out for birds like African open billed Stork, Grey Kestrel, White crested Turaco, African Green Pigeon, Great Blue Turaco, Ross’s Turaco, Red-headed Lovebird, Swifts, Sunbirds, Weavers, and Finches among others. Later transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

Day 6: Birding along the Royal Mile in Budongo Forest


You will spend the day birding in the forest and along the Royal Mile, a peaceful stretch of a private road through the tropical rainforest. The forest edges and interior impressively present birds including; Compact Weaver, Ituri Batis, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Grey-headed Oliveback, Pale-breasted Illadopsis, Shining Blue Kingfishers, Nahan’s Francolin, Rufus-crowned Eremomela, Cassin’s Honeyguide, Lemon-bellied Crombec, Jameson’s Wattle-eye, Grey-headed Oliveback, Compact Weaver, Spotted Greenbul, African Dwarf, Fire-crested Alethe and Chocolate-backed. You may also glimpse a blue monkey. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Game drive and birding and visit top of the falls


Head out go for a morning game drive in the Northern sector of the park, on a good day, you will see animals like buffaloes, antelopes, lions, elephants and many more. Bird species may include the Black chest snake Eagle, blue napped mouse birds, the secretary bird and many more. After lunch you will head to the southern part of Murchison and view the top of the falls and enjoy the Magnificent Murchison falls as they squeeze their way through a gorge in the rocks and plunges with a thunderous roar into the “Devil’s Cauldron”, creating a trademark rainbow.  In the evening, the birding aim will among many include; Senegal Coucal, Denham’s Bustard, Black-headed Lapwing, Northern Carmine Bee-eaters, Speckle-fronted Weaver, White-headed Vulture, Red-billed Quelea, Tawny Eagle, Heuglin’s Francolin, Red-necked Falcon, Spotted Thick-knee, and Swallow-tailed Martin, Pale Flycatcher, Senegal Thick-knee and some of the seasonal migrants. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Boat trip at the bottom of the falls and evening game drive.


Enjoy a boat cruise on the placid Victoria Nile to the bottom of the magnificent Murchison Falls where the Nile plunges through a narrow crevice. You will be able to see the Nile crocodile, bloat of hippos and a variety of bird species. The target will be the riverine forest, thickets and banks for the Shoebill, Little Bittern, Saddle-billed Stork, the Giant Kingfisher, White-backed Heron that may come around.  In the evening head out for a game drive, you will encounter birds as they return to their roosts, mammals and enjoy photogenic moments of the plains. At dusk, we’ll try the chances for nightjars like the Pennant-winged Nightjar. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Kitgum


After breakfast, On your way look out for birds like African open billed Stork, Grey Kestrel, African Green Pigeon, Great Blue Turaco, Ross’s Turaco, Red-headed Lovebird, Swifts, Sunbirds, Weavers, Finches among others. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park


Breakfast will be served early, you will enjoy birding on your way to Kidepo Valley National Park. Look out for birds like Clapperton’s Francolin, Woodland Kingfisher, Spot-flanked Barbet, Swallows, Cisticolas, Sunbirds, and Shrikes among others. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Birding and game drives in Kidepo Valley


You will spend the whole day birding and enjoying game drives. Look out for birds like Clapperton’s Francolin, White-bellied Go-away-bird, Rufous-crowned Roller, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, Black-breasted Barbet, Pink-breasted Lark, Cliff Chat, Red-pate Cisticola, Yellow-billed Shrike, Northern White-crowned Shrike, Superb Starling, among others. You will be able to spot various the different mammals like graceful Giraffe, Uganda Kob, Defassa Waterbuck, Buffaloes, Elephants, Warthog, and when lucky a Lion among others. Later head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Transfer to Moroto


You will begin your journey to Moroto. On your way look out for bird like, Yellow-necked Spurfowl, White-bellied Bustard, Rose-ringed Parakeet, White-bellied Go-away-bird, Rufous-crowned Roller, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, Red-billed Hornbill, Jackson’s Hornbill, d’Arnaud’s Barbet, Singing Bush Lark, Cliff Chat, Red-pate Cisticola, Karamoja Apalis, Hunter’s Sunbird, Yellow-billed Shrike, White-headed Buffalo-Weaver, White-billed Buffalo-Weaver, Eastern Paradise-Whydah among others. Later head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Transfer back to Entebbe


You will begin your long journey to Entebbe. You will reach in the late evening, head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Departure


The driver will transfer you to back to Entebbe International Airport in time for your flight.
